Taco night is not complicated. It's about the seasoning and the toppings. Make your own seasoning blend — it takes two minutes and tastes completely different from the packet. Set up a topping station and let everyone build their own. That's a taco night worth having.

Ingredients

The Beef
Ground beef (80/20)1.5 lbs
Yellow onion, diced½ medium
Garlic, minced3 cloves
Tomato paste1 tbsp
Beef broth¼ cup
Homemade Taco Seasoning
Chili powder2 tsp
Cumin1.5 tsp
Smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder1 tsp each
Oregano½ tsp
Salt and pepperto taste
The Toppings
Taco shells or flour/corn tortillas12
Cheddar, sour cream, lettuce, tomato, salsa, guacamoleas desired

Steps

  • 01Brown ground beef in a skillet over medium-high, breaking it apart. Drain excess fat. Add onion, cook 3 minutes. Add garlic, cook 1 minute.
  • 02Add all taco seasonings and tomato paste. Stir and cook 2 minutes until spices are fragrant and coat the meat.
  • 03Add broth and simmer 3–4 minutes until liquid reduces and the meat is saucy but not wet. Taste and adjust seasoning.
  • 04Set up your toppings. Warm shells or tortillas. Build your tacos and let everyone at the table do the same. That's taco night.
