The Best Garlic Bread You'll Ever Make

Real butter. Real garlic. Real parsley. Broiled until golden with crispy edges and a soft, buttery center. This is the garlic bread that disappears before the main course hits the table.

Garlic bread is one of those things that seems too simple to put on a recipe page. But there's a difference between garlic bread and great garlic bread. Real garlic, real butter, a little parsley — and the broiler. That's the difference.

Ingredients

The Garlic Butter
Italian bread or baguette1 loaf
Butter, softened½ cup (1 stick)
Garlic cloves, minced or pressed4–5 cloves
Fresh parsley, finely chopped2 tbsp
Parmesan, grated (optional)3 tbsp
Salt¼ tsp
Red pepper flakes (optional)pinch

Steps

  • 01Preheat oven to 375°F. Mix softened butter with garlic, parsley, Parmesan, salt, and red pepper flakes until well combined. Taste it — it should be bold.
  • 02Slice bread in half lengthwise. Spread butter generously across every inch of the cut surface. Don't be shy — all the way to the edges.
  • 03Bake 8–10 minutes until the butter has melted into the bread and the edges start to get golden.
  • 04Switch to BROIL on HIGH for 1–3 minutes until the top is golden brown and lightly crispy. Watch it — broilers are fast. Pull it before it burns.
  • 05Slice and serve immediately. Don't let it sit — garlic bread is best the second it comes out of the oven.

Blu's Tips

🧈
Soft Butter Spreads Better
Cold butter tears the bread. Leave it out 30 minutes or microwave 10 seconds. Soft butter spreads evenly all the way to the edges where it needs to be.
🧄
Fresh Garlic Only
Garlic powder doesn't have the punch of fresh minced garlic. For garlic bread, you want that raw garlic flavor that gets fragrant in the oven. Use the real thing.
🔥
Finish Under the Broiler
The broiler gives you those golden crispy spots that take garlic bread from good to great. Two minutes max. Don't skip it and don't walk away.
🧀
Add Parmesan for Depth
The optional Parmesan adds a nutty, savory layer that regular garlic butter doesn't have. Mix it right into the butter. Worth it every time.
