Oatmeal raisin cookies deserve more respect. When they're done right — thick, chewy, warm cinnamon, plump raisins — they hold their own against any cookie. The secret is brown sugar and not overbaking. That's where the chew lives.

Steps

  • 01Preheat oven to 350°F. Beat butter and both sugars until creamy, 2–3 minutes. Add eggs one at a time, then vanilla. Beat until light.
  • 02Mix flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt together. Gradually add to butter mixture. Stir in oats and raisins until just combined.
  • 03Scoop rounded tablespoons onto parchment-lined baking sheets, 2 inches apart. Press each ball slightly flat with your palm.
  • 04Bake 10–12 minutes until edges are golden but centers look slightly underdone. Cool on the pan 5 minutes before moving — they firm up beautifully.

Blu's Tips

🍬
Brown Sugar = Chew
More brown sugar than white creates a chewier, moister cookie with that caramel depth. All white sugar gives you crispier, crunchier cookies. Know what you're going for.
🌊
Soak the Raisins
Soak raisins in warm water for 10 minutes before adding them. They plump up and stay moist inside the cookie instead of drying out. Small step, big improvement.
🌾
Old-Fashioned Oats Only
Old-fashioned rolled oats give you texture and chew. Quick oats dissolve into the dough and disappear. You want to feel the oats in every bite.
🍫
Chocolate Chip Swap
Not a raisin fan? Swap them for chocolate chips. Or do half and half. The oatmeal cookie base is versatile — make it yours.
